About OSF PromptCare

When visiting OSF PromptCare, patients receive an initial screening by a nurse or a medical office assistant. OSF PromptCare physicians then provide a medical screening that assesses, manages, and treats patients in an appropriate, expedient, and respectful manner.

OSF PromptCare complements both traditional medical practices and hospital emergency departments. While OSF PromptCare is not an emergency department, it can manage many urgent conditions. OSF PromptCare also handles overflow patients and after-hours care for primary care physicians.

Additionally, OSF PromptCare is integrated with OSF St. Joseph Medical Center's Occupational Health department. This integration offers employees convenient additional locations for initial evaluation of work-related injuries.

School/Sports Physicals

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends a physical examination every year up to the age of six and then every other year thereafter. Your child is also required to have a sports physical in the off years, if they participate in those activities.

In line with the American Academy of Pediatrics, "Students should have a physical exam every year to be able to monitor their health and development," Dr. Tyler said.

There are several times throughout a child's life where they are required by the state of Illinois to complete a medical physical examination, including having up-to-date immunizations. Those times include prior to entering school for the first time, kindergarten, sixth grade (recently changed from fifth grade), and ninth grade. OSF PromptCare offers school and sports physicals making it easy for you to meet these requirements.

What to Expect:
During a routine school and sports physical at OSF PromptCare, a complete medical history will be taken along with a review of immunization records, allergies, injuries, or current symptoms. A list of any prescribed or over-the-counter medications and vitamins should be brought to the appointment as well as the immunization record if a tetanus booster is needed.

The physical examination will measure height, weight, and body mass index, blood pressure, heart, lungs, ears, eyes and vision, spine, posture, joints and flexibility. A urine test might also be done.
