Industrial Rehabilitation

Our staff is among the most experienced industrial rehabilitation teams in Central Illinois with more than 30 years of experience.

Functional Capacity Evaluations (FCE)

The Industrial Rehabilitation team at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center has been performing functional capacity evaluations (FCE) for more than 15 years using the internationally recognized Work Well system. The FCE is designed to objectively illustrate the physical demand level at which a worker can safely perform his/her job. Within the FCE is a cross-reference protocol that detects deliberately below maximum effort. By making direct comparisons to the worker's job requirements, a safe and speedy return to work may be achieved. This results in significant cost savings to employers.

Functional Job Analyses (FJA)

Over the past 14 years, OSF St. Joseph Medical Center's Industrial Rehabilitation team has performed some of the largest functional capacity evaluations ever performed in the United States. Handling large sites with literally hundreds of job descriptions, as well as small companies with only one position for analysis, Functional Job Analyses (FJA) are the cornerstone of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) compliant pre-hire screenings. The FJAs also provide an objective measurement to accurately, safely, and fairly determine an employee's return-to-work date. By facilitating the hiring of people who are best qualified to meet the physical demands of a job, as well as safely and quickly returning previously injured workers back to the workforce, employers can reap significant financial benefits.

Ergonomics

Making sure the work environment is as efficient and injury free as it can be is the goal of our ergonomics program. The work site is analyzed from an ergonomics perspective and recommendations are made for improvements to the work environment. Changes are made, if needed, and education is given to the workforce with the goal of decreasing job injuries and worker's compensation costs.

Educational Programs

OSF St. Joseph Rehabilitation Services offers educational programs for both the office and industrial environment. Lectures are presented in an entertaining format, teaching employees the importance of body mechanics, lifting, posture, and more. In addition, our lectures may be tailored to meet the needs of specific industries.

Acute Physical Therapy

With a full range of rehabilitation services to meet the needs of injured workers, OSF St. Joseph Medical Center's Industrial Rehabilitation department has some of the most experienced staff in Central Illinois. With our knowledge of the industrial arena, we know the needs of not only the patient, but the employers. We work our schedules around the worker and our board certified occupational health physician helps manage our patients to ensure their timely and safe return to work.

Treatment of Muscular/Skeletal Injuries

We provide therapy for the treatment of acute muscular/skeletal injuries with a focus on home exercise programs and education regarding facilitating early resolution of the problem. Body mechanics and ergonomic education is provided to the patient to help prevent further injury and assist the patient in an early return to work. Patients are encouraged to take an active role in the recovery process, thereby avoiding dependence on the therapist and unnecessarily prolonged treatment duration. Our staff has open communication with the referring physician, employer, and insurance carrier to facilitate a rapid and successful return to work. A functional capacity evaluation is given to determine when the employee can safely return to work and at what level of restriction, if any.
