2011 P2D2 Medication Collection a Success

OSF Around Town | P2D2 Success

OSF St. Joseph Medical Center held its fourth annual “P2D2” Green Day Prescription Drug Disposal event on Saturday, June 18. The medical center was able to safely dispose of more than 550 pounds of unused or expired medications from the Bloomington-Normal community. Forty-five pounds of that total came from OSF St. Joseph’s internal P2D2 drive.

Hundreds of cars took advantage of the drive thru drop-off where drug disposal containers were located in a tent and separated into prescription, blister packs (over-the-counter), and liquid. Included in that total, was the 57 pounds of controlled substances an officer from the City of Bloomington Police Department was able to collect on-site.

In 2008, OSF St. Joseph Medical Center and P2D2 held McLean County’s first medication collection. Over the past four years, the event has collected more than 1,750 pounds of unused prescription and non-prescription medications for proper disposal.
