Spiritual Support

Chaplaincy Services

Father Rogers Byambaasa Fr. Rogers Byambaasa OSF St. Joseph serves with the greatest care and love in the spirit of Jesus Christ.

The mission of our Chaplaincy Services Department is to ensure every patient in our medical center is spiritually cared for and comforted.

Our compassionate Chaplaincy Services staff is available 24 hours a day. Our team offers holistic spiritual care, pastoral support, and encouragement to patients, their families, and our medical center staff.

Chaplaincy Services staff visit our patients to help acquaint them with the pastoral services available and offer support and comfort.

Our Chaplaincy Services staff respond to patient and visitor prayer requests of a pastoral need, specifically praying for each need daily. The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis and Chaplaincy Services are privileged to intercede and bring your needs before God.

OSF HealthCare has a Prayer Portal, so employees can express their pastoral prayer needs as well.

Request a Prayer

Patients and their family members may request the Anointing of The Sick by a priest. Chaplaincy Services will also notify the patient or their family’s own faith community or pastor if requested.

Our staff also provides assistance with Advance Care Planning and Power of Attorney for Health Care.

Mass and Hours

Roman Catholic masses are held Wednesday through Sunday at 11 a.m. in the OSF St. Joseph Medical Center Chapel. Mass will also be held at 11 a.m. on Christmas Day and 4 p.m on Holy Saturday.

At the present time, the chapel is open 24 hours a day for OSF Mission Partners, current patients and patient support persons ONLY. These guidelines may change as the pandemic and public health guidelines change. We look forward to the day when we can once again open our chapel to the public. Until it is safe to do so, we will keep everyone who is unable to attend mass in person in our prayers.

Visitors, family members and employees can enjoy the beauty, comfort and serenity of the Auxiliary’s Meditation Garden. The garden is located at the south end of the walking trail along Veterans Parkway, just east of Eastland Medical Plaza II (Entrance B).
