VOLUNTEERS

“I volunteer because I love it! I truly enjoy working with the patients, visitors, and employees here at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center.”

Sharon Olsen
Volunteer

Introduction & Overview
Running a medical center efficiently is no easy task! When staff are busy, volunteers are the added ingredient that keeps everything running smoothly. Volunteers can provide that special touch patients and visitors count on. Some of the valuable activities volunteers at OSF St. Joseph are involved in include:

  • Greeting patients and visitors at the information/reception desk
  • Providing directions
  • Escorting patients between procedures or to their discharge
  • Assisting in clerical support
  • Working in the gift shop
  • Communicating between medical staff and families in waiting rooms
  • Providing comfort to patients and their families.

Teamwork
As a volunteer at OSF St. Joseph, you’ll enjoy the companionship and support of your fellow volunteers and medical center employees. You will be part of our integrated health care delivery network, aimed at improving the health of our community, the standard of living and the spirit of goodwill enjoyed by many generations of McLean County citizens.

Your Schedule
Volunteers generally serve two- or four-hours shifts, with schedules arranged to met individual needs. Most volunteer shifts fall between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., seven days a week. New positions are available now.

A Win-Win Situation
Volunteering is good for the organization as well as the community in general. Many organizations, especially not-for-profit ones like OSF St. Joseph, rely on the skills and energy of volunteers to keep programs and productivity going. But did you know how good volunteering is for the volunteer? The benefits of volunteering are many:

  • Socializing
  • Building friendships
  • Learning new skills
  • Sharing your talents
  • Physical activity
  • Serving others in need
  • Promoting the health and welfare of your community
  • Being an important part of the healthcare team.

In fact, studies have shown that volunteers are healthier and more satisfied with life in general than are people who do not volunteer.

If you have that special kind of dedication to become a volunteer, we need you.
